At 19:55 Iraqi local time on June 1, 2021, Unit No. 1 of the Rumaila Combined Cycle Power Plant Project built by Power China was successfully connected at once, with all systems running smoothly and key operating parameters excellent. This project is the first power plant project funded by China since 2003. The project has achieved an important step in implementing the Belt and Road Initiative. The project will provide safe, reliable and clean power to the electricity grid in southern Iraq after its completion and operation, which is of great significance to alleviating the power shortage in southern Iraq and improving people's livelihood. By implementing the Rumaila Combined Cycle Power Plant Project, which is located about 50 km west of Basra city, the former Rumaila Power Plant has been upgraded from a simple cycle to a combined cycle, and the total installed capacity reaches 707 MW.

SAMAWAH SOLAR POWER PLANT 750 MW COST OF $520,000,000

This station is considered the first phase of the agreement signed with the Iraqi side with a total solar capacity of 2000 MW. The contract was signed in the summer of 2024.
